Sushi & Creative Brainwaves on Receipts!

Just a normal sushi day with a friend...and a twist.

This is just how we create stuff. Plus, it’s always the best with SUUSHI!

Never off the fave list: Salmon with Onion and Mayo on top.

It was just a normal Friday afternoon in Ginza, and I was meeting my friend Victoria at Kura Sushi—my go-to spot, especially with its Matsuri theme. The place was buzzing with energy as plates of sushi zoomed by on the conveyor belt.

We dove into a parade of sushi, but nothing could beat our favorites: the Seared Salmon and the mouthwatering Salmon with Mayo and Onion on top. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and we savored them as it were a tiny celebration.

A 5-10 minute wait at this Kura Sushi branch felt like a little miracle for us.

Such a luminous and clean interior.

The accent lights give the Yatai (food cart) a festive atmosphere.

The tea-cups for unlimited matcha with your sushi!

I shared my excitement about my new newsletter project and asked Victoria, a typography design whiz, for logo advice. “Do you have anything to write on?” she asked.

“Just a pencil and... some receipts,” I shrugged, pulling out the crumpled papers.

“Perfect!” she said, grinning. Suddenly, our little lunch turned into a brainstorming session. We sketched ideas on the receipts, turning them into quirky logo concepts.

Hi Victoria!

Our creative brainstorming session after dessert.

The ideas flowed as easily as the sushi, and by the end, we had a hilarious collection of doodles and designs. Who knew a casual sushi date could spark so much creativity?

As we left, I tucked the receipts in a safe place the and smiled.

It was a reminder that sometimes, it’s the simple moments—sharing good food and laughter—that can lead to something new. Creativity often blooms in unexpected places; you just have to appreciate the little things and let them inspire you.
